Services to Business

The world of work is constantly changing because of new markets, technology and work systems. The Services to Business division provides a range of programmes and initiatives to meet this challenge including advice to companies in identifying training needs and drawing up training plans.

Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship involves training for employment in skilled trades. The standards based apprenticeship provides phases of on-the-job and off-the-job training with employers and FÁS Training Centres or Educational Colleges. In line with the FÁS Positive Action Programme for Women, employers are encouraged to sponsor female apprentices and take up the female apprenticeship bursary. For further information and explanatory brochures, contact your local FÁS office.

Training Support Scheme
FÁS provides financial support through the Training Support Scheme which is designed to increase and improve training within Irish business to increase competitiveness, quality and productivity to meet the challenges of trading in local and international markets. It is aimed at improving the skills of existing employees at all levels from operative to management. For further information contact your local FÁS office.

Construction Training Incentive Scheme
This is a similar programme to the Training Support Scheme and is aimed at the Construction (non-manufacturing) Industry and Local Authorities Designated Sector. This scheme has been developed in consultation with the Construction Industry Training Committee and is funded from Surplus Levy Funds in the Construction Industry. For further information contact your local FÁS office.

Excellence Through People
Effective training benefits everybody in an organisation. Greater production and profitability, improved team spirit and an increase in customer satisfaction are some of the obvious benefits which quality team training programmes can bring to business.

For training to be truly effective however, it needs to address the individual needs of employees as well as the overall objectives of the organisation involved. It must also be carried out in a planned, professional and systematic manner.

To help organisations achieve these aims, FÁS has developed an Irish Standard, Excellence Through People, which encourages organisations to develop the full potential of their employees and so maximise their contribution to the company. The award is also to show recognition for organisations that have achieved this aim.

All types of organisations are eligible for Excellence Through People including manufacturing and service companies, the Voluntary sector and the Public Sector.

Further information may be obtained from the Dublin North Services section in the FÁS Training Centre, Baldoyle Industrial Estate, Baldoyle, Dublin 13, Telephone (01) 8167437.
